June was full of releases that deserve attention. From the underground artists creating magic never heard before, to bands lulling you to sleep gently and making you reconsider your life choices. The first month of summer arrived as it always does- with a bang. Two of the records that already were covered by us at length- bed’s 円相 and Trooper’s Salute’s 友達がいました– are leading the line for an exciting month of music.
Highlight:
Hakushi Hasegawa- The Owner of Sweetness
You can tell this song is a departure from what Hasegawa has released before just by looking at the artist’s name. This time it’s not just Hakushi Hasegawa but together with HaHa and The Hairpins—the band assembled for the upcoming Honest Feeling Album, dropping on August 28th. Since there’s a full band, they have to rock, right? That’s exactly what they do. The track places a heavy emphasis on distorted guitars, trading in the jazz-fusion keyboard chords that Hasegawa originally became famous for. Don’t worry, though—the weird beats are still there!
